My Trip to Jaipur, India
I'll begin this blog by sharing my experience in Jaipur, India. I recently visited the capital of Rajasthan with friends for 3 days. It included a visit to Ajmer. If you are planning to visit Jaipur, i would advise you to go there in the winters coz from April-August, the weather there is quite unbearable. We spent most of the time inside the hotel and went out to go sight-seeing after 4pm and it was still quite hot.
As far as the hotel goes, one of my friends knew about a hotel Swagat but it was closed when we reached there. There are so many hotels to choose from depending on your budget. We found a considerably cheap hotel on M.I. Road. The hotel is called Hotel Mangal. The guy there showed us the pamphlet containing rent rates per night. We chose the Deluxe room with AC which, as per the pamphlet would cost 1400 INR per night. We, being typical Delhites, started bargaining and finally settled at 850 per night. The hotel was neat and clean and the AC was very effective. So i feel it was a good deal without spending too much money.
Anyway, we visited some forts, which is what Jaipur is known about. But the main attraction for me was the Chokhi Dhani. If you are not familiar with it, visit http://www.chokhidhani.com/village/ for more information. The entry fee charged was 350 Rupees which included a Buffet dinner which comprised of Rajasthani dishes. A word of advice for those who can't digest too much butter/ghee---Don't take the buffet deal if you are sensitive to excessive ghee/butter. I personally liked the food served there. Apart from the food, you can really enjoy there and dance with the local performers performing the Rajasthani folk dance. There are many games to play as well like archery, shooting at balloons (typical old fashioned "mela" style) and a lot more to do. Ideal time to reach the themed village is 7-8pm and you can enjoy till midnight.
As far as the shopping goes, anyone who goes to Jaipur would like to buy traditional Rajasthani items like clothes, footwear and marble art. You can find almost everything in Delhi or any other major town but it's always better to buy something from Jaipur itself, there is a famous handicrafts emporium that any local can direct you to.
